The UFC returns to Colorado on April 2 for UFC Fight Night 13 at the Broomfield Event Center. And it’s shaping up to be a wonderful fight card.
The main event is an interesting match up between top five lightweight Kenny “Ken-Flo” Florian vs. Joe “J-Lau” Lauzon. This has the potential to be an explosive match up and a hell of a ground war.
Kenny has great jiu-jitsu and a crisp Muay Thai skill set. Lauzon is the protege’ of “the Prodigy” BJ Penn, our new lightweight champion who is a great wrestler, with nasty ground and pound. Look for Joe’s good jiu jitsu skills to be vastly improved after working with Penn for so long. This will make for a great main event because both fighters are known for pushing a relentless pace.
Can a young, but very GAME Joe Lauzon pull off yet another upset against a very tough veteran Kenny Florian? I can’t wait to find out.
Stephan Bonner vs. Matt Hamill is another very appealing fight on the card. Hamill is wrestler who relies on his strength and has been successful thus far in the Octagon. His stand up has improved much since his stint on The Ultimate Fighter, but I think Bonner’s much crisper boxing will pick him apart.
Bonner is a big and strong light heavyweight who will not be pushed around or intimidated by Hamill’s strength. If Hamill does get a takedown against Bonnar, I think he will fall victim to Stephan’s very sharp jiu jitsu. I am very much looking forward to this fight and I will be shocked if Bonnar loses.
Thiago Alves vs. Karo “The Heat” Parisyan. We have all been bashing Karo lately for not fighting Jon Fitch to determine a clear cut number one contender to the welterweight title that GSP and Serra will unify in April. As much as we are all disappointed, it doesn’t take away from a fact that Karo vs. Alves is a great match up in the welterweight division. “The Pitbull vs. The Heat,” should be a great one.
Clay Guida is also said to be added to this fight card. He will face UFC newcomer Sammy Shiavo who is a member of the French Top Team and a Cage Rage veteran. Guida can not be an ideal opponent for any fighter making his UFC debut. The official bout contract has yet to be signed, but sources close to the fight say that it is just a formality and that Shiavo who just signed a four-fight contract with the UFC will indeed take on Guida at this UFN event. This event is so stacked that I doubt this fight will make the televised portion of the card.
Another great addition to an already stacked card is close to being made official. Din Thomas makes his return to the Octagon after suffering that knee injury at UFN11. It will also mark the return for his possible opponent, Josh Neer. Din Thomas vs. Josh Neer will probably be televised. I can’t imagine the UFC keeping this fight off of the main card.
Reports have surfaced that Frankie Edgar will also be fighting on this card. Stay tuned for his opponent.
So far the card looks like this:
- Kenny Florian vs. Joe Lauzon
- Frankie Edgar vs. TBA
- Stephan Bonnar vs. Matt Hamill
- Thiago Alves vs. Karo Parisyan
- Marcus Aurelio vs. Spencer Fisher
- Josh Neer vs. Din Thomas
- Clay Guida vs. Samy Schiavo
- Anthony Johnson vs. Tommy Speer
There is still room for two fights on this card and it will be interesting to see what the remaining match ups will be. I don’t think there is any room for anymore big fights so look for the last two fights slots to be filled buy TUF 5 or TUF6 fighters.
All in all, this has to be one of the very best UFN to date.
In addition this event will lead us right into the first episode of season seven of The Ultimate Fighter, featuring UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson and number one contender, Forrest Griffin, as coaches.
Stay tuned to find out what fighters will round out this already amazing fight card.
Don’t forget Mike Goldberg said that Frankie Edgar was fighting on the card.
Neer vs Thomas?
Since Josh Neer’s last fight in the UFC vs Nick Diaz the Dentist has fallen off the charts like a rotting cavity. ….Man that was lame… He has stayed active though, fighting in some rather small promotions. The biggest show he fought on in the past year was on the IFL and he lost to some guy I never heard of….
I’ll never forget Josh Neer beating the shit out of Joe Daddy sending him down to the LW divsion….
Holy Fuck,
Did I just say Shit and not get moderated…..
LOLOLOLOL
Neer showed lots of heart against Melvin.
Joe Lauzon is 15-3, and Florian is 9-3 in mma. Who knew the youngster Lauzon had more fight and a better winning percentage the Florian?
