After Brock Lesnar’s 1 minute of fame inside the octagon before getting submitted in the next 30 seconds by Frank Mir, Brock Lesnar looked strong and in shape. He took Frank Mir down and almost stopped the fight via punches. Brock Lesnar during the weigh ins and entrance into the UFC he was echoed by loud annoying boos from the sometimes stupid MMA fan.
But by the end of the night Brock Lesnar’s boos actually turned into Cheers, because people saw what Lesnar did for 1 minute and he looked better that what they thought. With such high potential for this former professional wrestler, the UFC is going to continue to bank off the popularity of Brock Lesnar.
So the question you have to ask is, who is next for The Next Big Thing in MMA, Brock Lesnar? Here is a list of opponents who I think could put on a good fight against Brock Lesnar and to make the UFC fans very happy.
1.) Eddie Sanchez.
-Eddie got fed to the dogs for his first live UFC fight by taking on Mirko Cro Cop. Eddie Sanchez has decent stand up skills and he can take the fight to the ground if needed. Eddie Sanchez vs. Brock Lesnar would be a style match-up composing of a grappler vs. striker. Those match-ups tend to work very well.
2.) Jake O’Brien.
-Jake fights Andrei at UFC 82, and when or loss for Jake, this would be a fantastic match for both of these fighters. Both of these men are fantastic wrestlers, and watching them put on a wrestling clinic would be a fantastic bout. But Jake O’Brien’s submission skills are very underrated. I believe this fight would actually make a Jake O’Brien match seem exciting.
3.) Jeff Monson.
-I know he is not under contract with the UFC right now, but I know if the UFC called, Jeff Monson would come. Jeff always puts on a fight and gives his opponents had times trying to figure him out. He is a very great wrestler, and is very good with take downs. I think him vs. Brock would be a decent match-up but size would be a huge difference.
4.) Christian Wellisch.
-This guy is very good. I think is one of the most underrated fighters in the game today. He had a very good submission victory over Scott Junk at UFC 76. He is a very tough guy who always goes out there and puts on a show for the fans. He is 2-1 inside the octagon, and he and Brock would throwdown and make this fight exciting.
5.) Justin McCully.
-Calling Justin McCully. You are needed to fight Brock Lesnar. I wonder if Tito Ortiz would let that happen or no. Justin McCully is not the greatest fighter in the world to watch, but he does give fighters fits. I think that the styles do not match up as well for Justin, but hey thats what the UFC needs to get Brock a win.
6.) Antoni Hardonk.
-He had a fantastic showing against Colin Robinson with devistating leg kicks. Antoni Hardonk is not very good on the ground and Brock could more than likely take him down easily and ground and pound him. But if the fight was standing up, I would give the edge to this fantastic Kickboxer from Amsterdam.
Those are the 6 fighters who have a good chance of being Brock Lesnar’s opponent.
I mean, you could always throw Tim Sylvia out there, but would that be a good fight for either of these guys?
Like or not, Brock is here to stay. Who do you think should be next for Brock Lesnar? Leave me a comment and get a talkin!
I knew that was a bad match-up for Brock as soon as the match was announced. I thought he should have started with McCully because first The Insain 1 is a smaller, slower, weaker ground and pound guy that Lesnar would dispose of in a very easy and exciting way and also to give Tito a beating by proxy. Other than his backpedal-fest against Cro Cop, Sanchez has been a solid fighter and doesn’t deserve to be used as fodder for a monster like Lesnar. Monson would pose the same sort of problems for Lesnar that Mir did, although probably not to the same extent. Hardonk has zero ground game and would get killed. O’Blanket doesn’t deserve to fight anyone in the UFC. I don’t know enough about Wellisch to comment on him.
I have to disagree with the first 3 fighters that you named. Brock has to fight a C-A-N in his next fight. No doubt about it. There is no way financially that the UFC would allow Brock to start 0-2 in the UFC, 1-2 overall. The hype would begin to dissappear. After his impressive one minute loss (I never thought such a thing could exist), he needs to get a COUPLE of wins under his belt before he fights any sort of name in the UFC HW division.
Eddie Sanehez has been on a roll. Actually he only has one loss, to Cro Cop. Sanchez was defeated due to intimidation before even stepping in there with Cro Cop. If they were to fight now, Sanchez would have a great chance at beating Cro Cop. Eddie is actually making waves in the HW divsion, a Sanchez vs Frank Mir fight would be much more likely. Eddie’s last 2 opponents would be much more likely candidates to fight Brock, Colin Robinson and Sao Paelieli.
Jake O’Brien’s wrestling skills are right up there with Brock’s, but Jake has more MMA experience. This would be a good matchup for Brock in his 3rd UFC fight, provided he wins his 2nd.
Jeff Monson. Are you crazy? Brock just got submitted by a BJJ black belt and you suggest putting him against another?
Wellisch, McCully, Hardonk, Robinson, Sao, Junk or someone we never even heard of should fight Brock next.
I think his next fight has to be against Hardonk or Paelieli. He needs to fight strikers with weak ju jitsu…so he can just take em down, Pound Em’ Out without having to worry about being submitted. That way he can unleash his furry on someone, show how nasty he can be, and build some momentum.
I would like to see a rematch with frank mir. I don’t see Brock falling for a knee bar twice. But that’ll probably not happen b/c Frank Mir doesn’t want to see Brock again. But other than that I believe that Congo would Be a good opponent. It would bring publicity also. But I think the Fight that would be the best for everyone would be against Cain Velasquez (2-0)no matter If he wins or looses against Brad Morris.
Velasquez is a former All American wrestler from Arizona State University who now trains at American Kickboxing Academy. If Cain beats Morris then Brock vs Cain would be a lucrative Promotion and would be an exellent fight.
Brock vs kimbo this is a fair fight both new to the ufc and a great money making fight, & great for there carrers, i hope the ufc hears the cry from millions and millions of ufc, mma, wrestling, fight, fans around the world screaming for this fight to happen in 2008 there both animals one a brawler and one a wrestler how can the ufc over look this match up KIMBO SLICE VS BROCK LESNAR… UFC LET THEM FIGHT LET THEM FIGHT LET THEM FIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
wellisch deserves a shot and would beat lesner
i say put lesner up against fedor; if lesner is so good i say lets test him against the best in the world. If he can beat fedor which i highly doubt, i must admit then lesner would be the best, but until that happens you cannot convince me that lesner is that good. i feel lesner is way over-rated because of his size. what really aggrevates me is when the announcer announces that he is 3 time wwe champion; come on wwe is fake and that is all there is to it
you put half the wwe wrestlers in the octagon and they will get there ass kicked within seconds period.
Simply put fedor has beaten much bigger and better fighters than lesner. I will bet good money that fedor will force lesner to tap in the first round. fedor can take the abuse that lesner can put upon him. i strongly believe that cro cop can beat lesner; cro cop is very dangerous.
