Paul “The Headhunter” Buentello has put down the challenge once again. On Monday’s episode of MMAWeekly Radio issued a challenge to the former internet street fighter and current Elite XC star Kimbo Slice.
“People want to see it. I think everybody wants to see it. Me and Kimbo should lace up the gloves,” said Buentello on the show. “Everybody wants to see it and I think it’s time. He’s fighting all the guys I’ve already knocked out and I’ve already exposed. He needs to get off that buffet line I put out there and come over to my Paul Buentello taco shop and see if we can get to work.”
The fight for Kimbo would be a major step of in competition. Buentello is not 10 years past his prime like Tank Abbott, or a former boxer without any ground experience like Ray Mercer. This would be a true test for the Bas Rutten trained Slice.
Buentello is a savvy veteran that has won 10 out of his last 12 bouts including victories over recent Kimbo Slice opponents Bo Cantrell and Abbott. Both fighters have had their chins questioned, what better way to test them than to have these two fighters continue to try to knock each other’s jaw off.
The fact that Strikeforce and Elite XC have another fight card to promote after the March 29 Shamrock vs Cung Le card makes a Buentello vs Slice fight a real possibility. The fight can sell in either San Jose where Buentello is a draw because of his training at the American Kickboxing Academy or in Miami where Slice just recently drew strong attendance in his fight against Abbott.
What fight would have a better intrigue. Buentello vs Slice or you can probably find another heavyweight like “Warpath” Villareal or Justin Eilers. Gary Shaw needs to step up to the plate the way the UFC did with Brock Lesner and put Kimbo against some solid competition. It isn’t very hard for Shaw when you already have a proven veteran calling him out.
Obviously, Buentello is trying to hype this because he has more to gain from it than Kimbo. However, with Arlovski leaving the UFC, I think an even better matchup could be in the works.
I have been waiting for Buentello to get his revenge on AA.
But I dont think they would set up AA vs Kimbo i think they would get to a AA vs Big Foot Silva first and continue to build up Kimbo.
Either AA or Headhunter will destroy Kimbo. Neither fight would last half way through the 2nd round.. and Shaw knows that. Look for a large, lumbering heavyweight to be fed to Kimbo so the ype macine can keep on working.. but no real competition.
I gotta say… if Klimbo doesn’t knock anyone out in the 1st round he conditioning will get the best of him.
Im anxious to see a REAL mma fighter go u against Kimbo.
